Road at Wargemont, Renoir

The painting Road at Wargemont by Pierre August Renoir was painted in 1879. It displays a mix of luminous colors, merging into one another with blurred contours. This artwork is one of Renoir's most notable landscapes. The piece has the peculiarity that it was neither exhibited in Paris nor offered for sale; it was first sold in Copenhagen in 1914, after the artist's death. The dreamy view of rocky hills, the winding path, the tree lines, and the spots that form the bushes are considered, according to experts, to have been done using a technique far ahead of its time. Renoir applied thin translucent layers of paint without waiting for the previous layer to dry; providing a blurred, fluid, and luminous image. The painting is on display at The Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio, USA.
