The Seine at Bougival, Pissarro

The dense appearance of the strokes demonstrates that the painting belongs to the painter's earlier style, prior to the peak of Impressionism. The French commune of Bougival was painted by many masters of Impressionism, among them Sisley, who painted a painting with the same title. The left side of the river is Paris, and the right is the small town of Bougival. The trees, banks of the Seine, and mountains to the right are connected by a small white bridge (in the background). Experts consider that this work was largely carried out as a study of light and shadows applied to landscapes.
