The Outer Harbour of Le Havre, Morning, Sun, Tide. Pissarro

This painting was the penultimate one made by the artist, commissioned by Pieter van de Velde in the city of Le Havre itself. According to the painter himself, he was forced to paint this landscape because his financial situation was not very buoyant. In his final artistic stage, Pissarro had begun to experiment with pointillist techniques that his colleagues (like Seurat) were applying. The result is a work with a photographic character where the stains of Impressionism join the dots to form the figures.
