This is a genre scene, quite atypical for the time and for the painter. It features 4 characters of which the young woman standing in the center of the canvas is the most prominent in the composition, her half-smile, cheek dimpled, and eye half-closed, is believed, at the time and in this context, to signify that the girl was single and available.
