The Art of Living, Magritte

The painting is not among the most well-known of René, but more than others, it holds a huge psychological significance linked to the painter.
The main character, very similar to "The Son of Man", is presented with characteristics that reveal the beliefs and ideas that the artist had about life, among them: his agnosticism, his egocentrism, his trust in the communist system, and in human reason.
The inflated head, detached from the shoulders, above the mountains, denotes the superiority of reason (as Gnosticism preaches), over any other force of matter, or concept of beauty or morality.
