The Crab, Bouguereau

The painting titled "The Crab", was created in 1869 by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
It depicts a little girl playing on the beach with a small black crab, in the background, the marine horizon, and a boat with fishermen. William-Adolphe has the ability and skill to see and discover the beauty and brilliance of life in everyday scenes. Bouguereau, a master of the academic style, not only achieves perfect movements and shapes in the girl but also plays with the reflections and refractions of light on the water. The work on the crab's colors that change depending on its position in the water is admirable.
The model, one of his favorites, is Emilienne Cesil-Biegler, the daughter of his maid in those years.
It currently belongs to a private collection.
